One Snack at a Time

Generous friends and faithful student volunteers are turning snack sales into support for the H.E.A.R.T. of Legacy Volunteer Program, so more students can take classes at Legacy.

Last Wednesday night, right in the middle of our church family meal, our sweet friend Ms. Judy came up beside me and quietly pressed a handful of bills into my hand. She didn’t make a big deal of it. She just smiled and said, “I want you to use this on snacks for those sweet children.”

I had to blink back a few tears.

How the Snack Bar Supports H.E.A.R.T. of Legacy

At Legacy Homeschool Resource Center, our students enjoy snacks each week, and every dollar from those sales goes toward helping students take classes they might not otherwise be able to afford.

Our dream is for every single snack we sell to be donated by friends, grandparents, neighbors, and community partners. When the snacks are given, 100% of the sales can go straight to helping qualifying families with class admin fees through the H.E.A.R.T. of Legacy Volunteer Program. Nothing is held back for supplies, and every dime goes to a child’s seat in a classroom.

An unexpected gift

Brysen is 11 years old, and he runs our snack bar every week. He takes the job so seriously, and we are so proud of him. A few days ago he overheard me explaining to a parent volunteer how the snack bar works and where the money goes. I didn’t think much of it. But a little while later, Brysen walked up to me, looked me right in the eye, and handed me $40.

“I want to make a donation to the snack bar fund.”

Friends, that was every dollar he had.

Brysen’s gift: $40, all the money he had.

To an 11-year-old, $40 is a life savings. He didn’t give out of his extra. He gave all of it, because he understood that his gift would help another kid sit in a class. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a clearer picture of generosity.

Have you ever wondered whether one small gift can really make a difference? Brysen didn’t wonder. He just gave.

The Lord owns “the cattle on a thousand hills.” He has no shortage of resources. And over and over, He chooses to use His people, a church family member with a few bills in her hand and a boy with his whole savings, to carry out His purposes right here on earth. We get to be part of it!

Thank you, snack bar crew

Brysen, Nolan, Mason, and Grant, thank you for your faithful work in this ministry. Week after week, you show up and serve your friends from behind that counter, and every snack you hand across the table helps another student take a class. We see your hard work, and we are so grateful for you.

Thank you, first quarter donors

These families and businesses have already given to our first quarter snack sales. Because of you, students are taking classes.

We also have SEVERAL anonymous donors, since many Amazon packages have arrived with no name on them. If that was you, send us a message so we can thank you properly!
